croghan's jewel box

Last week, I visited Charleston for the first time. The city is as beautiful and charming as everyone says it is. Palm trees lining the streets, balmy weather, stunning architecture befitting a modern day Scarlett O’Hara... I hope to go again next year.

The city’s stately homes and overall essence aside, one of my favorite things about Charleston is Croghan’s Jewel Box. It’s a little slip of a jewelry store packed to the brim with baubles and gems both old and new, including lines such as Elizabeth and James and Temple St. Clair. At the back of the store, there is a wooden case loaded with the best antique jewelry I’ve ever seen. You'll just have to take my word for it. Croghan’s also has a lovely private label (these earrings, designed and fabricated at the store, are at the top of my wish list).

The photos above have been scanned in from the store's press booklet, styled and produced by Gray and Co. I'm particularly fond of these images as I collect gold antique bangles. My inner Veruca Salt wants everything!

pretty earrings at gump's

I have never been to Macau trực tuyến BaccaratGump's in San Francisco. And maybe it's for the best... friends who know the store well tell me that I'd never leave. I already spend too much time browsing their website, jewelry in particular. I'm an earrings fiend and their selection is show-stopping. And while I love most of their pieces, I continually come back to these three. The Gabriella Kiss gold sparrow pearl drop set is just... amazing. I love jewelry inspired by nature. They're well out of my price range, but Etsy has some nice alternatives. Second, the baroque pearls. I saw a woman wearing a similar pair in the Fall and I couldn't get over how chic she looked. They were beautiful -- not as "ladies who lunch" as I thought they would be. And finally, we have the jade studs. My friend Kit, an student at the Kansas City Art Institute, wears a pair like these nearly every day and they rock. She has a black belt in thrifting and found them at an estate sale. I always hope that I'll stumble across a pair one day but no luck so far :)

want of the day

I've wanted Elizabeth Cole's Fishbone Earrings since 2012. They're costume, but they're classic and can be worn by women of all ages (can't you see Iris Apfel loving them?). I've searched for a less expensive pair of similar fishbone-esque earrings but, frankly, no one does it better. Someday, I think I'll have to take the plunge and buy them. Find these and other Elizabeth Cole pieces here.

a lovely being + etsy

Sometimes, I go a little overboard when I go antiqueing. And by a little, I mean a lot. I'd like to blame it on Kansas City for being such a thrifting goldmine, but the truth is that I've been doing this for years! My little studio apartment is practically bursting at the seams with vintage goods and so I've decided to start an Etsy shop to pass these treasures onto you. Above are a few choice offerings from a lovely being boutique. Each item listed on the site was hand-selected simply because I was drawn to it. I had a lot of fun with styling and setting up the store front, and I can only hope that you take a peek. I'll be adding more pieces (lord knows my apartment needs it) in the next few weeks. If you'd like, drop a line - I'd love to hear what you think!

above: vintage dalmation figurine, yellow and cream striped vintage vase, vintage needlepoint accent pillow, pair of heavy brass vintage pelican bookends, vintage basketweave ceramic pitcher, painted malachite and brass jewelry box

not your grandmother's pearls

I LOVE pearls. Real, faux, I don't discriminate. But sometimes they can be a bit difficult to wear without looking too "Barbara Bush." The above wishbone posts + cuff necklace from Anthropologie don't fall into that category. The earrings are a no-brainer and can be worn with essentially everything. The cuff (named the "Double Pearl Necklace") is fierce... I see it with a minimalistic black dress, or maybe paired with an Alexa Chung-esque babydoll dress to give it a little edge. Once again, Anthropologie for the win.
